Concept for Kalota collection was designed and developed through investigation in geometry. Kalota is in fact a geometric term used for describing portion of a sphere. We have decided to follow a predetermined set of rules related to spherical geometry in order to achieve desired tangent transitions on strategic places between different furniture parts. For example, bottom edge of horizontal surfaces were all designed as a spherical cutouts with leg constrained perpendicular to spherical surface.
This constraint allowed us to design beautiful continuous surface transitions on visible outer portions of furniture legs that are carried out in different typologies within collection, tables, consoles and low tables. Similar principles were later adapted and applied in other typologies, such as chairs, stools and bar-stools with adjustments made to meet specific demands for each item within collection.
